Breaking Surfaces
The Oxford dictionary defines surface as “the outside or top layer of something”, the term can also describe the outer appearance of a person, thing or situation. In the same dictionary, the verb “to break” is damaging something or separating something into multiple parts.
Taken together, these words convey the notion of breaking the surface of something, diving through or into it and uncovering what is behind or inside it.
The TEDxHHL 2023 event aims at exploring different facets of the term “Breaking Surfaces” and diving into stories of breaking through the surface of the unknown, leaving the comfort zone and making new experiences.

What is TEDx?
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. A program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our program is called TEDxHHL, a student initiative from the HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management. At our TEDxHHL event, TED Talks video and live speakers will be combined to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
